The BIG Show 2013 to provide trade opportunities for the construction sector

Muscat, Oman, February 2, 2013 --The 10th international exhibition of building materials, heavy construction equipment and interior furnishings, The BIG Show, is preparing to stage the most important building and construction show in Oman from March 17 to 20 at the Oman International Exhibition Center.

Since its establishment in 2002, it has served as a stable and beneficial trade platform for buyers, suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to source or market building materials, products, equipment and services and as a gateway to create business opportunities and promote inward investment.

Currently, Oman is at the peak of infrastructure and industrial development, as evidenced by the multi-billion projects under construction. These include the new Muscat International Airport, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center and the new Parliament Building, all of which require the use of concrete structure, block work, floor, wall and ceiling finishes. These also require the availability and accessibility of basic building materials and resources, such as marble, ceramic and stone imports.

With the scale of the ongoing development that will greatly impact the building and construction requirements, accelerate consumption and construction activity, along with the overall good investment climate, much could be done to help push the economy forward.

The BIG Show’s project manager Ebrahim Taher says “The current growth in Oman’s construction sector is reflective of the development also happening in the region. A rise in the growth percentage rate of cement consumption will do much to boost the trade.”

He adds that it will also enhance potential investors’ confidence as it will complement their commercial, industrial and tourism activities. “The BIG Show’s role in all these is to help attract

investment through the cooperation and support of government institutions and specialized trade organizations by providing information about the business potentials of the sector and presenting commerce opportunities as well.”

As a testimony to The BIG Show’s significance to the industry, Managing Director of Windows 2000 uPVC Windows and Doors Said Abdullah Said Al Saqri said “Windows 2000 has always been an active participant of this prestigious exhibition as it serves not only as a suitable vessel to promote our products and our company directly to prospective clients on a better perspective and larger scale, but it also gives us a one-stop-shop opportunity to meet the other big top companies that allow us a free access to all new information on the latest products in the building industry in Oman which is essential in the improvement and development of our own products and services.”

Apart from the exhibition, The BIG Show will hold the first Oman Builders Forum from March 17 to 18, focusing on the themes “Interior Technologies”, “Concrete and Alternatives”, “Sustainable Construction”, and “Safe Buildings”.
